Striker's YBC

What's it all about
This is the transcript from a 12 minute powerpoint presentation all about our club. We have many copies and we like all club members to have one for their own information and to show to potential new members. As you read through parts of the text are links to other relevant parts of this website.
Well first we have some aims for our junior tenpin bowler's
- We want them to learn how to get the most out of tenpin bowling by providing instruction.
- Allow them to take part in BTBA sanctioned league bowling
- Compete in both local and national tournaments
- Give them the opportunity to qualify to represent both Norfolk and England
Before we go any further we feel we must make a few points clear
- Although our committee member's are CRB vetted to work closely with the children, and some are further licenced to instruct, this does not make us a creche or childminding facility. If youth bowler's are to do as well as we hope, they need the active support and encouragment of their parents or guardians. The responsibility for the behaviour of children remains at all times with the parents or guardians, club and Striker's bowl staff are not qualified to look after the welfare of children taking part in club activities.
- Tenpin bowling at all levels has strict etiquette. Dress codes apply at some levels and are strictly applied at tournaments.
- Members are required to pay club subscriptions of £20.00p per year paid in two £10.00p installments. The funds are used for BTBA and NAYBC registration, subsidising of equipment and tournament entry fees. Additionally bowler's must pay £6.00p for bowling on the days they attend the club, this is for lineage and the league prize fund.
Hopefully this has not put you off. It's all good from here on in. We want to explain how we hope to achieve the clubs aims and explain how Youth Tenpin Bowling is run in this country.

All clubs run BTBA sanctioned leagues.
- Using checked and sanctioned lanes and equipment.
- To establish averages and handicaps for use in tournaments.
- Unlimited handicap system's allow for even and fair play.
- League bowling provides loads of fun and excitement.
Many of the member clubs run their own tournaments, inviting other clubs to take part.
There are also Nationaly run tournaments.
- The NAYBC Nationals.
- The Junior Scratch Tour.
- The Scratch Bowler's Club.
- As RAF Coltishall YBC we have run our own Adult/Junior Scotch Doubles tournament for the last seven years.
Of course what this club is really about is learning to get to grips with what can be a difficult and frustrating game.
- First remember that it is only a game which we play to have fun.
- This accepted there are lots of ways we can learn to get more out of it.
- We use many methods to encourage and help our bowler's to learn.
Target Averages & Extras
- We set a target average for our bowler's to chase. The system is set for boys to achieve a 200 average and girls a 190, when they finish as juniors and move on to the adult game.
- Extras is a system that rewards member's for closing frames, scoring runs of strikes, games above their target average and their turnout.
Badges and Strike out for Success assesments
- The BTBA and NAYBC provide a wide range of achievement badges for games from 50 to 250, Series (total of three games) from 300 to 650 and strike runs from 2 to 10 in a row.
- We like bowler's to put themselves up for a Strike out for Success assessment from time to time. This is a system devised by the BTBA head of coaching, there are levels 1 to 10 and we have our own little pin badges which show our bowler's present levels.
Bowler of the Month
Achiever of the Month
Rookie of the Month
- These cover the three divisional age groups.
They get a trophy and a place in the Bowler,Achiever or Rookie of the year tournament held each February.
Kevs 12 step course
- Many of our bowler's have done the 12 steps.
- In the past we have done them over 12 weeks in the summer.
- They can of course be done at any time.
- All the fundamentals and some quite advanced information is covered.
- Anyone would benefit from doing them.
Weekly instruction
- We will step in assist anyone who is having difficulty during club sessions.
- We run specific sessions every Saturday at 1030.
Tournaments
- This where we really see how good we are. The prizes can be brilliant, you get to bowl with with people from all over and usually the atmosphere is highly charged. Personally I love it and would encourage anyone to get to some tournaments.
- Tournaments like the county trials and ranking tournaments are the way to representing your County or Country.
We hope this has explained why we are here and what we are trying to achieve.
Good Luck
